Hello everyone! I go
by Missy, I am 39 years old and have been going to Sierra part-time for the
last 2 years while juggling working full-time and raising two teenage
kids. I recently changed my major from
Nursing to Accounting because of the odds of getting into the Nursing program
at Sierra and also because I have done Accounting in one form or another for
the past 20 years. In my free time (what’s
that?!?) I love to travel with my kids, spend time with friends, go to Giants
games or go to live music shows. I am a
self professed concert junkie!! So far
this year I have been to five concerts and still counting!
I have zero experience in communication studies. I honestly have dreaded taking Speech class
to the point of considering dropping out of college at the thought of getting
up in front of a class and talking. I
don’t like being the center of attention and have a hard time expressing myself
verbally. However, I am always open to
new ideas and learning styles and hope that if I can take one thing away from
this class it is to better communicate with the rest of the world, whether it
be verbal or written, personally or professionally.
Hi Missy,
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't worry too much about the public speaking class. I took it over the summer with Donna K. at Sierra and she was awesome! She made every speech easy. The longest speech we had to give was 8 min, and the hardest part about that speech was not going over time. Good Luck, Katey
Hi Missy,
ReplyDeleteI am also a huge concert enthusiast! Last year, I think I went to 13 concerts...? I sort of lost count towards the end! I won tickets off of the Wolf radio station for six of the concerts last year! That was pretty awesome! I took a ton of classes over the summer so I wasn't able to go to any concerts this summer, the last one I went to was in February, so I am now having withdrawls! I feel you about public speaking. I am not afraid per se to speak in front of a large crowd of people, I am just worried that I will jumble up my words or mess up royally! Luckily for me, this is the only Comm class I have to take. Yay! Good luck this semester!!
Kate
Hi Kate, what concerts have you been to? I wonder if we have actually been to some of the same ones! If you won them off of Wolf...I think that is country so perhaps not. Although I did take my daughter to see Blake Shelton in March!
DeleteWould have never have thought one would go from nursing to accounting! The way I looked at accounting was I was good at numbers and there is always a need for money counters in this world. This is my first communications class too. good luck!
